Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow

So it's taken me this long to realise that all of Deborah Lippmann's nail polishes are named after song titles (I should've realised it after Bad Romance but I just thought that was a coincidence)! Yes, I know I'm slow. So now everytime I pick up a bottle and read what colour it is I have that darned song in my head for the rest of the day..... cue "Boom Boom Pow"

Boom Boom Pow is not a thick polish at all and I would imagine it would take quite a few coats to get enough layers on there to look presentable so I thought I would lay down a base coat first.

BASE COAT: MAKE UP STORE NAIL POLISH "SVEA"

The Make Up Store's nail polishes are beautiful and really quick to dry. Svea is a two tone polish that is beige in colour but with a gold shimmer throughout and is nice enough to wear on its own. It reminds me of a more blingy version of Ciate Cookies and Cream.

No filter/edit
So to make it more blingy I added two layers of Boom Boom Pow. As you can see in the pics below the glitter applies very thin and doesn't give a good finish like the other Deborah Lippmann polishes I have used so far.

When I view my manicure from far away it really reminds me of the OPI Man with the Golden Gun 18ct Top Coat but with more bling factor.

Over all it's a nice a top coat but definitely not one you could wear on its own and it is very hard to build up and layer.

As an added bonus, below is a nail art fail! It really does pay to invest in real Swarovski crystals. That'll be next on the list to add to the kit!

Deborah Lippmann - Bad Romance

There's not too much to say about this polish besides the fact that it's DAMN SEXY! hehe

Bad Romance is a black polish with magenta/hotpink glitter (you could even argue that it is a purple). The black in this polish is actually quite thick and this is the first Deborah Lippmann polish that I didn't have to put a base coat under. This is the finish after two coats.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this colour. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it seemed to only last three days before starting to chip and this is the first time this has happened with any of the Deborah Lippmann polishes and I'm starting to wonder whether or not it's because I didn't put a base colour.

Three days post mani :(
I think next time I wear this I'll put an undercoat to test my theory on why this chipped but otherwise awesome colour, shame about the chipping factor.

Contrast has been upped in this image to try and depict how much glitter shows up in the polish.

Her Fashion Box May 2013

So we're up to the third Her Fashion Box and I gotta say they're doing a pretty awesome job with it all. I'm happier with these boxes than I ever was with my year subscriptions of bellabox, Lust Have It or Glossybox!

This month we received:
  • 1x HFB Statement Necklace ($19.95 Value)
  • 1x Set of Collar Pins ($14.95 Value)
  • 1x Leather Cuff ($29.95 Value)
  • 1x Full Size Batiste 200ml Dry Shampoo ($9.95RRP)
  • 1x Pair of Ardell Lashes ($8.99RRP)
  • 1x Eyelash Adhexive ($6.99RRP)
  • 1x Travel 12ml Size Designer Brands Pore Minimising Primer ($7.99)
  • 1x Full Size Polished London Nail Polish ($7.99RRP)

STATEMENT NECKLACE

This month's jewellery in HFB is actually quite stunning and for the first time I didn't want to swap it with the Classic or Feminine designs. The one gripe I did have with it though was that one of the gems fell out and the clasps were broken so I had to do a dodgy job of super gluing it in place. The colour of the gems are divine and sparkled really nicely in the light - if only they were real!

COLLAR PIN

I really am on the fence about this trend. I love it on other people but just not on me. It just doesn't suit me and especially this "Trendy" design. Maybe I just don't have the right shirts to pair it with (perhaps a reason to go shopping?).

The pins that I received were a little blunt on the tips and so I couldn't wear them so you'll have to imagine in your mind what these would look like on a collar/shirt.

LEATHER CUFF

This is another win for HFB! I LOVE this cuff and they also deserve extra brownie points as this was also big enough to fit around my wrist (and that's hard for a bigger girl). I also adored the colour (and would've equally enjoyed it in the Classic (black) and Feminine (white) variety). I would definitely buy the whole set!

 BATISTE DRY SHAMPOO "WILD"

This brand has been in EVERY subscription box I have bought. Granted it has never been in full size but I think they've flooded the market with samples now. The smell of "Wild" is divine and if this was a perfume I would buy it for sure!

I didn't like the feel of this in my hair. I am the type of person who can't go a day without washing my hair, but this product would be excellent for those of you who are after a nice smelling, inexpensive dry shampoo.

ARDELL LASHES AND GLUE

As a makeup artist I can never have enough lashes OR glue. Ardell is one of my favourite lash brands and I buy them all the time - you can never have enough Ardell lashes!

What I like about the Ardell lashes is that the band is extremely flexible and sits nicely on top of your own lashes. If you've always wanted to try fakies I would recommend trying these in the Accent style. Then once your comfortable with that you can graduate to the Natural ones, or if you're feeling extremely adventurous use the Glamour ones!

DESIGNER BRANDS PORE MINIMISING PRIMER

I did not like this product at all. I didn't notice much of a difference in longevity or finish in my foundation, although, I did notice the appearance of pimples once I used this. So it goes without saying that I don't recommend this and really I have nothing much else to say about it.....

 POLISHED LONDON "BUCKINGHAM BLUE"

To be 100% truthful I was ready to dislike this product from the get go as I'm a product snob when it comes to makeup and nail polish, but I've got to admit, this polish really did deliver on its benefits listed in the HFB Magazine. Most cheaper nail polishes have little to no pigment in which you need three coats at minimum to get an even coverage but with this one you could've stopped at one. Polished London is also super glossy (pics below have NO TOP COAT on), is super easy to apply and has a smooth and flawless finish.

I would WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend this product to anyone and with a price tag of $7.99 and over 30 colours to choose from you can't go wrong!

I've got my fingers crossed for June's Her Fashion Box to be more exciting and innovative! I haven't been absolutely blown away by their boxes yet but there's always the next one to look forward to.

Beauty Luscious & Co. and Some Selfies ;p

One of my long time supporters on my Facebook page, Suzanne contacted me a while ago and said that she wanted to send me some samples of her makeup range (Luscious Cosmetics) to try out and of course I said YES (I mean who can say no to free makeup - lol)!

She sent me some samples of lipstick, illuminator and some foundation. As I have pretty sensitive skin I decided to leave the foundation trial for another time as I have to attend and judge the Face of Alice Be Curious Competition this week and there will be plenty of photos so I wanted to play it safe.

 "FAMOUS" MOISTURISING LIPSTICK

This lipstick really surprised me. I've worn my fair share of lipsticks and I always find that they dry my lips out, even if the product claims to be moisturising. This is where Luscious Cosmetics differs.

Swatch on the back of my hand (macro - no filter).

This lipstick just feels so luxurious on your lips and has a lovely shine. Even though this lipstick is sheer, it still has quite a lot of pigment on it and it was super easy to get an immaculate lip line (I didn't use a lip liner for this application).

The only thing I would say that detracts from this product is that it does move a lot on the lips and I could imagine having to reapply this all the time. However, if you are a regular lipgloss wearer you may not find this too annoying to reapply during the day.

Practicing my vacant stare! ;p
This is also a safe option for those of you who want to wear red lipstick but aren't confident enough yet to wear such a loud and bold colour. I definitely felt comfortable wearing this in public and it didn't feel like I was wearing a lipstick at all.

I would recommend this for people who suffer from dry skin on their lips and also for those who just want to wear a sheer wash of colour on your lips rather than a full coverage lipstick.

Beauty Luscious & Co Moisturising Lipstick comes in 25 colours and retails for $30.00AUD.

***I just had to add this pic of myself. Sometimes I make myself laugh with some of the faces I pull trying to get selfies to show off products! hehe ***

"PARADISE" LIQUID ILLUMINATOR
Luscious Sheer Glow comes in two different shades, Movie Star (iridescent pearl glow) and Paradise (bronze glow).

For those of you who have seen my work, you know how much I LOVE using illuminators and highlighters on the skin. I think it's because of my obsession with JLo's shine in all her photo shoots and Scott Barnes' work.

This illuminator has an amazing shine, however, I would recommend to use it mixed in with your foundation only, as I found the texture of this to be too runny to be used just as a cheek highlighter. It does give off a nice sheen though (as shown below).

No edit/filter

Beauty Luscious & Co Luscious Sheer Glow retails for $45.00AUD.
